Social networks, to which we’re all somewhat addicted, consistently introduce new features for their users, regardless of user sentiment. It’s akin to buying a car and, after 20,000 kilometers, suddenly having to enter it through the trunk. But let’s steer away from that topic for now.
In the realm of digital marketing, YouTube Shorts has emerged as the latest favorite of the YouTube algorithm. The old mantra used to be: “Longer video clips, longer… looooooonger!” Then TikTok arrived, revealing our collective preference for 60-second videos or perhaps our shared attention deficit disorder. Likely both. But that didn’t stop other digital giants from releasing their own versions of short video formats, aggressively promoted through our beloved algorithms designed to make us happy.
YouTube Shorts has undergone various iterations in appearance and duration, and currently, a “short video” is anything in a 9:16 format lasting for 60 seconds. When Shorts monetization was introduced a few months ago, optimistic content creators had high hopes, but unfortunately, the pessimists were correct. However, YouTube Shorts proves undeniably convenient for promoting longer content. You can cut an interesting segment from your video, add captions, and post it on your channel—a practice adopted by many serious YouTubers today. Sadly, stumbling upon this content didn’t provide an easy way to access the original video clip.
To the great joy of all who professionally work with this platform, YouTube has decided to delight us with a new option that has been available for a few days. What a joy! It doesn’t happen every day that a social media giant introduces an option that you didn’t even know you needed. Okay, we knew, but it doesn’t matter.
When uploading Shorts to YouTube, you can “attach” information about the clip from which it was cut. You no longer need to write the name of your podcast or channel in big letters, hoping the viewer will remember it. Now, there’s an on-screen reminder, similar to the CARDS option.
All YouTube channels that use this option can expect a CTR (Click-Through Rate) of 5% to 20%. Don’t be lazy, link your Shorts to the long video you took it from. Maybe that will be the one to make your channel famous.
